More information about Custom Interior Design:
Cost: $125/ hour
When would I need this type of design package? This service is for custom design of kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, additions, or other spaces. If you need drawings created, colors selected, or fixtures specified, this is the perfect service for you.
Design process: The amount of time needed for this service depends on your project, and how involved you'd like to be in the process. Typically, you can expect a room like a kitchen to take 20-40 hours from initial meetings through final construction document completion. These hours are not typically completed consecutively, so you can expect the entire design and ordering process to take at least a month.
Takeaways: When working with me hourly, I can offer flexibility in the services you choose to use. However, if you choose to work with me full service, you can expect the following: We will have an on-site meeting where I measure, take photos, and notes about your wishes. I will put together a few conceptual diagrams and sketches and we will meet to discuss the plan you'd like to move forward with. I will then create the documents from which we will get quotes from different cabinet (or other material) suppliers as well as from contractors for installation. We will shop together for finishes like tile, flooring, countertops, etc. Last, I will review the plans and material list with your contractor so that there is no confusion when construction begins. I will also be available to come on site in case of issues or confusion during the build.
What if I don't need you to do everything listed above? While I prefer to work with you on every aspect of the design - this can help prevent confusion or changes during construction - I am willing to remove some pieces of the process from your package. Just let me know if this is something you're interested in, and we can discuss it.
What if I'm not happy with your design? This is why it's important not to skip the beginning steps of measuring together, and reviewing multiple design options via sketches and diagrams. I've found this process to be invaluable and it has resulted in many, many happy customers. Even if you think you already know what you want, it is important to at least discuss the other options that might exist in your scenario - I won't create drawings without at least spending one hour on these types of discussions. If we've exercised all of these requirements, and I've done my best to meet your needs, and you're still not happy, we can discuss revisions of your plans at a discounted rate.
Not currently available: submission of permitting paperwork (must be done by your contractor), structural engineer or architect approval stamps for permitting (requirements depend on county & extent of project)
